Vegan Teriyaki Tofu Bowl at Backlot Express in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Longtime visitors will remember we could once get a modified vegan Teriyaki Vegetable Bowl at the ABC Commissary, well now we get a fully vegan Teriyaki Tofu Bowl at the Backlot Express! Sadly, the Vegetable Bowl at ABC Commissary is no more, but there is a California Burger there you can enjoy. Today we’re talking about a brand-new dish in town, or the Backlot.

Backlot Express Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Located next to Star Tours, the Backlot Express has been a staple of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since it was Disney-MGM Studios.

Dishes have come and gone, but we are excited to have this completely plant-based  Teriyaki Tofu Bowl item added to the Backlot Express menu as of today. This new dish appears to be replacing the Two Suns Hummus dish that was available here. This is of course disappointing to lose any vegan dish, even if it wasn’t a full entree.

The menu online and on the My Disney Experience app (where you can place your mobile order) describes the dish as follows:

Teriyaki Tofu Bowl ($12.99)

Seasoned Jasmine Rice, Marinated Tofu, Yuzu-pickled Edamame, Carrots, Cucumber, and Onions drizzled with House-made Lemon-Tahini-Chipotle Vinaigrette and Sesame Seeds

It’s quick and easy to put a mobile order in. Just select your arrival window (planning ahead is best, as times can get booked up. I ordered mine at around 8am, from home, selecting the first 11am window), then when you arrive let them know you’re there and to start making the order (some places do this automatically when your arrival window starts). You’ll then get a notification that it’s ready and which pick up window to go to.

It sounded wonderful in the description, looked good in the menu image, and it tasted delicious too.  Here’s what we were served today:

If you are used to my reviews now, you know I can’t get enough of Jasmine rice. The tofu is seasoned so well, although it was served cold, but that may be because I had the first order.

I definitely wish there were more tofu. Five cubes is not a lot, but the flavor is there for what you do get. And I will say the chicken version of this bowl is the same. The veggies and chipotle sauce really gave it a kick (it does have some spice to it so be aware if you aren’t a fan of spicy things).

This is a great whole food plant-based option, which Disney’s Hollywood Studios really has a good amount of, with the Plant-based “Lobster” Roll on Sunset Blvd, and the Zuchii Wrap, and Triple Suns Chickpea Breakfast Wrap over in Batuu. I definitely recommend it over a plant-based burger, and will have to add it to my list of things I can never decide between when visiting Hollywood Studios! (This is a good problem to have.)

I also asked and was told the Chicken Salad on the menu can be made vegan by removing the chicken and cheese, and using the Italian Vinaigrette dressing, if you wanted to have an entree salad here.
