The Casey’s Corner vegan Slaw Dog is a fan favorite at this classic Magic Kingdom quick service location – and now they’ve added a SECOND vegan option – the plant-based Chicago Style Dog! This is a surprising development when lately we’ve gotten vegan options removed, not added. But with the recent additions of the vegan meatloaf and Korean BBQ Burger at the value and moderate resorts, we are seeing some nice new items.
UPDATE: The Slaw Dog is now no longer available as of July 1, 2023. If you would like to express your thoughts to Disney on that, feel free to email Disney. I know I will be.
I am personally not a huge mustard or relish fan, so I was very grateful when my friend and roving VDF reporter Daniel sent over photos and a review of this new vegan Chicago style dog from Casey’s Corner. Let’s take a look:
For those unfamiliar, the plant-based Loaded Slaw Dog and now this new Chicago-style vegan dog are Beyond brat vegan sausages served on a vegan bun, with different toppings. So it’s not really a “hot dog” like the non-vegan versions, but if you like a Beyond sausage, you’ll probably enjoy it. There is also a Beyond brat with sauerkraut served on a pretzel bun at Friar’s Nook in Fantasyland. The Chicago-style plant-based Dog is $12.29, same as the Slaw Dog, and also available as a plain brat for $9.79. The Chicago Style dog is topped with diced tomatoes, onions, yellow mustard, and Chicago green relish.
Daniel said it tasted great, but he would probably still order the Slaw Dog going forward. His wife was a bit concerned about the neon green relish, which is traditional for a Chicago dog, made by adding blue dye to the pickle relish. Of course purists will note the lack of poppyseed bun, pickle spear and whole tomato slices and celery salt, but it’s a valiant attempt. Most of all, what I love to see is when a new menu item is added to the “regular” menu, a comparable vegan option is also added, and that’s what’s happened here. No word if this will be a permanent addition or limited time, so if you’d like to check it out, head to Casey’s Corner at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom.
