What’s Vegan at Salt & Straw Ice Cream at Disney Springs?

You may have heard of the name Salt & Straw, and their vegan flavors, but if not, you’re in for a treat. Literally. This ice cream shop has gained fame on the west coast and become a crowd favorite at the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim. I’ve often looked at Salt & Straw’s vegan flavors on instagram and wished I was out in California to give them a try. The best part (along with the availability of unique vegan flavors) is that they ship nationwide, so you can try them out before (or after) you visit here in Disney Springs in Walt Disney World Resort. Oh, did I forget to mention that? Salt & Straw is now open in Disney Springs!

What’s Vegan at Salt & Straw?

Now that Salt & Straw is open, we know exactly what vegan flavors that we can enjoy. Currently available are 3, that’s right THREE vegan flavors and they are all completely different!

Note: the waffle cones are not vegan, but sugar cones are, and cups are also available. They also have a flight available which comes with 4 flavors, so you can double up on a vegan one if you’d like that.

On the menu is the Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip: Coconut and pure Oregon mint oil coalesce into a delicate, floral ice cream, freckled with organic dark chocolate. This flavor was so refreshing and delicious. I’m not sure how they do it, but it tastes like real dairy. The mint is strong and natural tasting, and the freckled chocolate is a nice bit of texture without being too crunchy.

Next up, the Pineapple Coconut Sorbet:  Roasted pineapple fruit with coconut cream, churned to a smooth and creamy sorbet. Again, this is so creamy it tasted like real dairy to me. It is also tart, and has almost a cheesecake-y flavor to me, definitely not like any sorbet I’ve had before. I really enjoyed it.

Lastly, in the “Last Chance Scoops” flavors (located at the bottom of the menu, don’t miss it!) is the Petunia’s Rainbow Sprinkled “Baby Cakes.” I got this in a cone, and loved it. Salt & Straw takes Petunia’s Pies & Pastries®, (Portland-based all-vegan, gluten-free bakery) “babycakes” (their birthday cupcakes) and adds them into classic vanilla oat ice cream, studded with colorful sprinkles. They add in a deep red strawberry jam, and you’ve got a rainbow-confettied-birthday-cake-extravaganza. The person helping us said it was their version of birthday cake ice cream, but I thought it was even better.

These “Last Chance Scoops” are from their previous featured flavors and will not be around long, so definitely grab this one while you can!

More great news, you can try any flavor with a free sample!

New flavors are added each month with a new theme. This month’s theme is the Student Inventor Series. Next month’s theme has flower flavors, so I’m not sure if that means any new vegan flavors, but we’ll be updating each month! Be sure to follow VeganDisneyFood on instagram for our updates!
