Today the Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine experience at Hollywood and Vine reopened for breakfast! Since there are no more buffets, they have an updated menu with a new vegan item, so we headed over to check it out and get you a review.
Finding vegan breakfast options in any of the Walt Disney World theme parks can be a task. With the removal of buffet options, your options may be even more reduced because you can’t load up on fruit or vegan Mickey waffles, etc. There are some locations where you can find “all-you-care-to-enjoy” options, but Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine is not one of those. You can see the full breakfast menu on Disney’s site.
Hollywood and Vine Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine Vegan Breakfast Options
You’ll find the Hollywood and Vine restaurant on the shores of Echo Lake in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The restaurant offers full service, prix-fixe character dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
With the current state of safety protocols, you are able to check-in for your reservation on your My Disney Experience app. You’ll get a notification when your table is ready and you can head to the check-in stand. They may also call your name before the notification arrives.
The dining room has a classic diner vibe to it with art deco fixtures, chrome work and vinyl seats. The buffet pictured above is no longer available for guests, but servers access their orders from the kitchen in this area.
During lunch and dinner service, Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy stop by for a visit. Breakfast is unique in that its theme is Disney Junior characters. You’ll get visits with Doc McStuffins, Vampirina, Fancy Nancy and even Roadster Goofy.
There are songs from Disney Junior playing throughout the experience, with the Disney Junior theme song played about every 10 minutes as the characters dance around. You are invited to dance along with them – at your table, in your seats.
Vegan Options at Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine
With the reopen, this new menu now comes with a basket of breakfast pastries. Sadly, there is not a vegan version of the pastries available. We were offered fresh fruit as a replacement, which included cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and red grapes. I was also able to order an iced coffee with vanilla soy milk.
A new vegan item to the Play ‘n Dine breakfast menu is the Plant-Based Frittata. Listed on the menu as: Plant-based Eggs, Fire-roasted Vegetables, Shaved Fennel, and Plant-based Sour Cream served with H&V Potato Hash and Tomato Jam.
This is made with Just Egg, roasted vegetables, including zucchini, mushrooms, and peppers. The plant-based sour cream was a great addition. The tomato jam, is very sweet, so be aware if you aren’t a fan of mixing your savory and sweet ingredients. I am a mushroom fan, and these mushrooms in the frittata were very well seasoned.
The frittata itself had a crispy top to it and overall was very delicious. I really thought the top had cheese on it, it was just that sort of texture and seasoning, but I was assured that was not the case. However, they did tell us that they are planning to add vegan cheese soon! So that’s exciting. Let’s hope they get some vegan pastries in the mix as well.
The frittata is served with the “H&V Potato Hash” which is just roasted potatoes with peppers and onions, and was a great accompaniment. You can also request fruit if you’d rather.
As for additional vegan items on the menu, you can also order Plant-Based scrambled eggs on their own (which normally come with your choice of meat-based side). Side items you could order also include: fresh fruit, cereal with non-dairy milk, oatmeal and breakfast potatoes.
The kids menu offers Mickey waffles, just remember these need to be requested, as the Mickey waffles on the menu as-is are not vegan friendly.
At the end of your meal, you are presented with an autograph card from all the characters who visited with you during your stay.
You can also check back for our video review for more views of the frittata and atmosphere:
I will say that if I still had younger children, this would probably be a must-visit. Without additional options for vegans, and the lack of a buffet (at the same price as before), I probably wouldn’t return again. It may work out well for your family though!
