We recently revisited Whispering Canyon Cafe, one of our favorites on Walt Disney World property. We have always loved the vegan options there but hadn’t tried one of the menu items – until now. We’ve now experienced the Maple-Chipotle BBQ braised Jackfruit Dip at Whispering Canyon!
I was skeptical of this item, as (if you follow @VeganDisneyFood on instagram you know) I am not a huge jackfruit fan. However, I think I may have to change that opinion, because I feel like Disney chefs have finally figured out how to make jackfruit work.
Previously, with the vegan/plant-based skillet option, the BBQ’d jackfruit was mostly still in pod form (see photo below) and that’s where it’s problematic for me. It’s a texture thing and no matter what the sauce, I couldn’t get past the texture of the jackfruit.
However, lately, it’s been shredded really well. Whether the BBQ jackfruit on top of the burger at Regal Eagle Smokehouse or the plant-based brat with coffee BBQ jackfruit at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, they are really stepping it up. Back to Whispering Canyon – let’s talk about the Maple-Chipotle BBQ braised Jackfruit Dip!
This was such a nice surprise of a menu item! The BBQ jackfruit was topped with vegan pepper jack cheese, the same as is on the Impossible burger lunch option. Fresh jalapenos are placed on top which definitely adds to the spice of this dish. Served with a generous amount of tortilla chips, this makes a great appetizer to share with the table.
Online, this option is only listed on the dinner menu, but in person, it was on the menu posted at the front of Whispering Canyon. We asked our server after it wasn’t showing up on the QR code scanned menu, and he confirmed it was available.
