Yesterday marked the grand reopening of a Disney institution… the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. We headed over to check out all of the new plant-based dishes that have been added to the menu and to see what the space looked like after its expansion.
Vegan Options at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at the Beach Club Resort
We were happy to see that the pastel color scheme stayed. New artwork has been hung, a gorgeous tile floor has been set and the beloved neon jukebox still calls the space home.
Gone are the booths. RIP to our favorite seating option. Banquette seating fills the perimeter of the room with stand alone tables located in the center. There is also seating available at the bar and yes, they are now serving draft craft beer.
Vegan Options at Beaches & Cream
The menu has had a bit of a rework with four dedicated plant based items clearly marked. We sampled all four of them.
I am a bit tater tot obsessed so the Plant Based Chili & Cheese Tots ($9) stole my heart…and my taste buds.
The dish starts with a base of crispy golden tots which are smothered in a vegan chili.
The vegan chili is a whole food chili with no mock meats and is comprised of kidney beans, tomatoes, carrots, corn and black olives in a savory sauce with a nice kick to it.
The bowl is finished with a coconut based sour cream, Daiya cheddar cheese shreds and a sprinkling of green onions.
You can also get a Plant Based Bowl of Chili ($9) by itself sans tots with the same vegan toppings.
The surprise favorite for me was the Plant Based Burger ($17). I’m so glad I have you to be accountable to because I probably wouldn’t have ordered it. Oh look….another Beyond burger… but this burger was next level!
This sandwich features a vegan Beyond patty slathered with vegan mayonnaise mixed with fresh herbs and it’s topped with lettuce, tomato and caramelized balsamic onion jam on a house-made multi-grain vegan bun. The bun isn’t gluten free and I spoke with a chef who told me that the gluten free bun they have in house right now contains egg.
Ermahgurd those onions!
The burger comes with a side of steak fries or watermelon slices.
For dessert the chefs have pulled out all the stops with an inventive take on a vegan biscotti.
These are the vegan Cookie Fries with Dipping Sauces ($8).
You’ll get a basket of chocolate chip cookie fries with a trio of dips.
The cookies are made with Earth Balance butter and Enjoy Life chocolate chips and are similar in texture to a shortbread cookie.
The three dipping sauces consist of vegan marshmallow cream, strawberry sundae topping and chocolate sauce. Originally there was a fourth dipping sauce of caramel but chef told me that one of the ingredients hidden in the caramel was whey so they took that off the menu.
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so I won’t be ordering these again but they’re a fun novelty item and I appreciate the whimsy.
Final thoughts on the all new Disney’s Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. I’ll definitely return for the Chili & Cheese Tots and as surprised as I am to say it…for the onion jam topped Plant Based Burger. I’d skip the Cookie Fries though.
