Top of the World Lounge will reopen on July 11 as a “themed” Villains Lair for DVC members and will offer a couple of vegan food options. The Top of the World Lounge on the top floor of the DVC Bay Lake Tower next to Disney’s Contemporary Resort had been closed since the pandemic. Rather than just reopening, Disney decided to give it a very loose backstory of villains having moved in while it was closed, then moved out, leaving some items behind. Gone are the gorgeous John Hench Space Mountain and Tomorrowland concept art images that once adorned the alcove seating area, and matched perfectly with the monorail glass wall behind the bar.
The monorail is still there, but probably because it would be more expensive to change it out. There are a few villains cloaks and a mirror on the wall, along with a TV, and the John Hench art replaced by generic villains portraits. Sorry if I don’t seem too excited about this, but I think this theming could’ve been kept to drinks and the menu vs. removing the theming that made sense for the space. But since I’m not a DVC member, I probably won’t be going there any time soon anyway! But if you are, here are the vegan items you can enjoy:
The vegan options at the Villains Lair lounge are noted on the new menu with the plant-based leaf logo and include the Lair-Made Hummus and the Cosmic (Plant) Power Flatbread. There is a giant pretzel which normally would be vegan, but they have brushed it with butter for some reason. 🙁
The hummus is vegan as is and looks quite good, served with pita wedges.
Villains Lair Lounge also has a vegan as-is flatbread. The Cosmic (Plant) Power Flatbread is topped with plant-based Za’atar spiced meat crumbles, caramelized onion spread, pickled onions and vegan tzatziki.
This looks delicious and I wish I could try it! The other Tomatoes of Terror Flatbread is also modifiable to be vegan if you remove the cheese. They do not have any vegan cheese options at this time.
From what I have learned they will be continuing to modify this location over time so the menu (and maybe the decor?) will probably change in the future. If you are a DVC member or traveling with one, be sure to check out the DVC membership requirements before planning your visit. Let us know if you check out these menu items and what you think of this new lounge takeover.
