Get ready to head to Disney Springs for some vegan meatballs at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar! Jock’s has a new menu and there are vegan meatballs – an on-menu vegan item that we can all enjoy: Mine Car Meatballs! You may be asking, why are they called Mine Car Meatballs? Well, because they are served in a mine car, of course!
Jock Lindsey’s is chock full of fun lore, hidden details and connections from Indiana Jones and beyond (which is part of why it’s so popular) but the details don’t end there. The menu items are mostly served on very unique displays, just to add to the whimsy and enjoyment. Add to that the fact that things taste great, and you have a recipe for a winning bar and snacks! (Did I mention the vegan meatballs??)
Other Vegan Items at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar:
In the past, Jock Lindsey’s served a giant pretzel for under $12 with mustard. Then they updated the menu to turn the pretzel into a $23 charcuterie pretzel – the Air Pirate’s Cargo Loaded Pretzel. BUT, we can still order it plain (or UNloaded). The mustard and pickles are vegan and can be added, and they won’t charge you the full price. So that’s one option for us there. Melissa from Vegan Disney World and I recently visited Jock Lindsey’s to try both the pretzel and the new vegan meatballs. We both liked the pretzel, it’s a good basic option if you are there with friends and want a snack to tide you over.
Vegan Mine Car Meatballs at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar:
The real reason we revisited this hot spot was to try the Mine Car Meatballs so let’s get to it! This is listed on the menu as: Mine Car Meatballs – $13, which it lists that you can substitute Impossible Meatballs for, for the same price!!! 😯 The vegan meatballs are coated in a Sweet-and-Sour BBQ, with Chimichurri on top, on a bed of Potato Hay. The potato hay is basically potato sticks (did anyone else grow up eating those?).
The BBQ sauce is really flavorful and not the usual sweet BBQ (or marinara like you expect on meatballs). If you like chimichurri, that’s a fun additional flavor (if you aren’t a cilantro fan, I’d ask for it on the side or leave it off) mixing the sweet and sour BBQ. Add the crunchy potato sticks and you have all the textures and flavors for a hit snack. And how cute is the little Mine Car?! It even has the Jock Lindsey’s logo on the side! Adorable.
You get five meatballs, so keep that in mind if you’re there with a crowd. The vegan Impossible meatballs used at Jock Lindsey’s are definitely the pre-made ones from Impossible, but that’s totally fine for two reasons. One, I love them, I make them at home, and two, if it means they keep them around longer because it’s easy to keep bags of meatballs in the freezer, that’s a win-win!!
We both really enjoyed these meatballs. I’m so glad to have an option that is the same price as the non-vegan version and we don’t have to make a million requests to make it vegan. We also enjoyed two non-alcoholic drinks there, the Diving Bell – Simply® Lemonade and Watermelon and Teddy’s Tea – Green Tea with Mint and Tangerine. Teddy’s Tea was really refreshing and not too sweet. Melissa said the Diving Bell *was* super sweet.
I can’t wait to go back and order more of these meatballs, and poke around the rest of Disney Springs. Pro tip: weekdays are much less crowded than nights and weekends if you’re looking for less crowds! Let me know if you’ve tried and enjoyed the vegan Meatballs from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar!
I’ll have a video review up with Melissa soon, so be sure you’re subscribed to VeganDisneyFood on YouTube for more video companion reviews! I’ll update this post with the video when it’s live and share on our social channels. Thanks for reading!
